Words from Teachers

One Assignment, Many Objectives

Michelle Lampinen, NBCT

High school English teacher at Biotechnology High School in Freehold, NJ

Overview

After determining that her 11th grade English students were not writing enough, Mrs. Lampinen decided to develop an assignment that would:

  • Address multiple Common Core standards
  • Hold students accountable while minimizing stress
  • Be structured enough to provide clarity while giving freedom to experiment

!!!She introduced blogging to her 11th grade students!!!

Quotes from Mrs. Lampinen

"Benefits extend beyond the classroom. Introverted students tend to share more online than they do in person; blogging is an invaluable way for me to get to know them better as people and students."

"Students' persuasive writing is improving.
Their improved skills transfer to formal work."

  1. I would think that using blogs in the classroom would be more appealing to students because they use social media and technology more. It can be useful if used in the right way.
